A little over a year ago, the door of Rosa opened for the first time on Calle de Floridablanca. Today, this corner of Sant Antoni already has its regulars, its rituals, its friends who became friends right here. But this history of a bar in Barcelona doesn't start with the first drinks poured : it starts much earlier, and far from Sant Antoni.

A craft, a passion

Rose trained at a hospitality school in France and spent several years working in service and restaurants : head waiter, manager of several venues, always on the move. It was never just a job for her, it was a calling. And over time, an idea started taking shape : having a place of her own.

It was in Vertou, near Nantes, that she met Nicolo. He watched her work one evening and was struck by her professionalism and energy. "The day you want to open your bar, count on me," he told her. A promise kept safe, waiting for the right moment.

Barcelona, love at first sight

Three years later, Rose moved to Barcelona. It wasn't a calculated decision : it was love at first sight. A lively city, where something is always happening, where you cross paths with people who end up mattering. Catalan culture won her over : the generosity, the authenticity of its people.

When the time came to open her own place, she got back in touch with Nicolo. But before diving in, Rose wanted to do things properly : she spent a full year working in different venues across Barcelona to learn Catalan, perfect her Spanish, and truly understand the local culture. She didn't want to open a bar in Barcelona, she wanted to open a bar of Barcelona.

And the chosen neighbourhood was Sant Antoni : a neighbourhood in full expansion, full of life, with a very strong identity. The perfect place to settle.

Why "Rosa"?

The name simply comes from Rose's own name. But it's also a nod to a symbol of Barcelona : the rose, present throughout the city's history and culture. A name with two roots : hers, and that of the city that adopted her.

What Rose hadn't fully anticipated was just how much Rosa would become a meeting point. Over this first year, she's watched entire groups of friends form inside the bar, people who arrived alone one night and today are part of the same circle of regulars. Almost all of Rosa's regular customers seem to know each other, one way or another.

That's perhaps the best surprise of this first year : Rosa isn't just a bar to grab a drink. It's a place where bonds are made.
